McKenzie River: Delta Campground, ORour campsite

May 24-26, 2007

The McKenzie River flows from Clear Lake in the Cascades down into the Willamette Valley. In June 2008, we spent three nights camping along the river: two at Delta Campground (at the junction of Highways 126 and 19) and one at Ollallie Campground (on Highway 126, past the Old McKenzie Highway). Our second night at Delta, friends Robin and Kathy joined us with their son, Josh.

Kathy, Robin and Josh arrived midday, and we drove up the McKenzie for some hiking and waterfall viewing.

Delta Campground isn't right on the river. Some of the campsites are next to a stream that comes off the river, but ours was next to a nice grassy meadow. But it's a short drive to hiking along the MacKenzie, and the campground itself was very sweet. Large sites, very clean privies, and nice and quiet. You do have to carry water from one of two pumps in the campground, though.

It rained during dinner Saturday night, and we packed up fairly early to head out.
